WOODSTOCK, Va – The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office has received information that residents are receiving calls, from someone posing as law enforcement, asking for money.
Sheriff Tim Carter reported that the caller stated that they were a law enforcement officer and that the resident needed to get money orders, in order to pay off a debt or there would be a warrant for arrest.
Carter stated that these calls are part of a phishing scam, and we urge residents to not provide the caller with any personal information.
The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office will never require you to repay a debt using a prepaid debit card, a retail gift card, or cash. We also do not have a staff member, by that name.
If you receive a call like this, please hang up immediately, and report it to the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office.
If you feel you have been a victim of this, or any other scam, contact the Sheriff’s Office at (540) 459-6100.
