BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater women’s basketball upended Ferrum, 51-38 on senior day for the regular season finale Saturday afternoon.

Records: BCE (21-4 OVR, 14-2 ODAC), FC (13-12 OVR, 7-9 ODAC)

How It Happened
• A defensive battle took place at Nininger Gym. Bridgewater and Ferrum fought to take control of a scoring run the entire game. In the first quarter, the Eagles got on the board first with a made free throw for Jasmine Griffin. After two minutes, BCE got a bucket to go with a slick pass by Jay Garcia for the Jaden Alsberry finish. Stephanie Flamini’s squad stayed on top but was limited to a 9-6 first quarter score.
• The Eagles slowly gained a lead through the second quarter going up by nine with 3:21 left in the first half with a smooth lay-in from Griffin. Turnovers from both sides soon became the pressing issue closing out the half at 22-13.
• Despite scoring a limited seven points in the third quarter, the Bridgewater defense held strong to maintain a lead. Ferrum creeped up on BCE late in the quarter but was held at 27 points after three quarters.
• Bridgewater found its rhythm in the fourth quarter amassing a 15-point lead late in the quarter. FC went up ahead by one off a three-pointer to open the fourth, but the Eagles were not phased starting out a five-point lead at 7:24 left on the clock. Alsberry lifted the lead to 11 four minutes later. Soon after, Jay Garcia found open lanes to the rim initiating contact for a chance at an and-one opportunity. Garcia got her way with under three minutes to go swiftly knocking in a layup on the foul. BCE held strong for the last two minutes of play, closing out the final quarter, 51-38.
