RICHMOND, VA (Rocktown Now) — Attorney General Jason Miyares has announced that Virginia and a bipartisan coalition of states have reached a landmark settlement in principle with the NCAA that will allow student-athletes to benefit from their Name, Image, and Likeness.

A year ago, Miyares and Tennessee filed a lawsuit against the organization, alleging that its N-I-L restrictions violate federal antitrust law, stifle competition and unfairly limit student-athletes.

A federal judge agreed and blocked the rules for the duration of the litigation.

The new agreement protects student-athletes’ N-I-L rights during the recruiting process and permanently bars the N-C-Double-A from reinstating the N-I-L Recruiting Ban.
