BRIDGEWATER, VA (Rocktown Now) — Bells rang twice from Memorial Hall Saturday on the campus of Bridgewater College, to honor the memory of Campus Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer Vashon “J.J.” Jefferson who died 3 years ago.

The officers were killed in the line of duty when shooter Alexander Wyatt Campbell attacked the campus in 2022.

On an online post, the college posted the scripture verse “Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” and added, “Together, we honor their service, sacrifice and memory.”
