FERRUM, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College men’s basketball team fell to Ferrum 90-52 on Saturday.
Records: Bridgewater 8-12 (3-8 ODAC); Ferrum 13-7 (5-6 ODAC)
How It Happened
• Ferrum tallied the first seven points of the afternoon before a Woody Machado layup got the Eagles on the board. The Panthers replied with a pair of three-pointer sandwiched around a Kyren Smith score and stretched the lead to double figures just over four minutes in at 15-4. Machado drained a three-pointer to cut into the lead, but a 9-0 FC run made it 24-7 nearing the midway mark of the frame.
• A Jordan Cooper dunk ended the run and sparked a short 6-2 scoring run for the Eagles, but the Panthers responded with a 7-2 run of their own that saw BC go without a field goal for over two minutes until scores from Smith and Machado got the offense going once again. Both sides traded scores until consecutive scores from Oates and Cooper helped the Eagles cut the led back down to 10 with 2:49 to go in the half forcing a Ferrum timeout. Five-straight points by the panthers to close the half made it a 42-27 game at the break.
• Bridgewater opened the half with a pair of makes by Cooper at the free throw line and a three-pointer by Oates sandwiched around a FC score, but a 16-6 Ferrum run blew the lead to over 20 at 60-38 with 12:06 to play.
• Oates scored on the back of the Ferrum scoring run, but an old-school three-point play by Charles Tart III and a jumper to his credit on the next possession kept Ferrum rolling. Three-point makes by Steve Burgess and Will Dunlap helped BC cut in the gap, but Ferrum replied with a 9-0 run that kept the Eagles off the scoreboard for over four minutes. Smith ended the scoring run with a score at 84-50, but the Panthers outscore BC 6-2 over he final 2:51 to hang on.
