NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – Peyton McDaniel produced a pair of double-double performances, averaging 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game this past weekend to help James Madison women’s basketball improve to 17-4 with a perfect 9-0 mark in league play and earn Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors for the second week in a row.

The weekly award is McDaniel’s third in JMU’s 2024-25 campaign – the most by any Sun Belt player this season – and the fourth in her career while playing in the league. The Birdsboro, Pa. native is the first Duke to win back-to-back SBC Player of the Week laurels since Kiki Jefferson earned the nod twice in the first two weeks of the 2022-23 season.

The redshirt junior opened the week with 14 points and 12 rebounds to go along with six steals and two blocks in a 62-47 win over Southern Miss on Friday. The guard followed this performance by knocking down 5-of-11 (.455) from behind the arc for 23 points and grabbing 10 boards to give her her third consecutive double-double and guide JMU to a 76-69 triumph against Coastal Carolina on Sunday. McDaniel was a force on the defensive end, registering a career-high three blocks in the win.

McDaniel leads the conference in scoring with 18.4 points per game and three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 39.0 percent (23-of-59) from deep in league play. She is also the only Division I player to average at least 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while hitting 45-plus three-pointers this season.
