How It Happened
• Randolph-Macon got on the board first with back-to-back scores before a Maleek Richardson score got Bridgewater on the board. RMC responded with a 12-0 run to take a 16-2 lead, but three-straight points from Richardson got the Eagles offense pumping. BC closed the gap down to 11 at 18-7 after a Will Dunlap layup with 10:03 to play in the half.
• The Yellow Jackets responded with six-straight points before a second-chance effort by Jordan Cooper stopped the run momentarily. RMC tallied seven-straight points in response to stretch the lead to 20 points. Two makes at the free throw line by Aaron Oates sparked the Bridgewater offense. BC responded with an 11-2 scoring spree led by five points from Oates as BC cut the lead to 33-20 with 3:11 to play in the half. The Yellow Jackets outscored BC 8-6 over the final three minutes of the half to take a 41-26 lead to the intermission after a Cooper three-point make in the closing seconds.
• Bridgewater opened the second half on a 9-4 run to close the gap to 11 after a Steve Burgess three-pointer and closed the gap even more as an old-school three-point play by Oates stretched the run to 15-6 and made it a 48-41 game with 15:18 to play in the half. Randolph-Macon responded with a 6-0 burst, but BC had a reply with a 6-0 run in their favor led by four points from Kyren Smith to make it a 54-47 game at the 12:18 mark in the frame.
• Feeling the pressure, Randolph-Macon responded with seven-straight points, but a score by Cooper disrupted the run momentarily. RMC kept the momentum rolling with a 12-0 run that followed to blow the game open to a 73-49 lead with 7:17 to play. Cooper ended the run once more with a bucket, but the Yellow Jackets got a score in response and rolled to a 21-8 scoring advantage over the next 6:29 to take a 89-57 edge. Woody Machado made a three-pointer and Keiman Dillon made a pair of free throws in the final minute, but the damage had already been done.
