Harrisonburg City Council announced intentions to collaborate with a local nonprofit for the sake of building a new downtown park.

The group Build Our Park is proposing the project on South Liberty Street next to Turner Pavilion, where the Harrisonburg Farmers Market is hosted.

During a meeting last night, council member Monica Robinson said she’s a fan of the concept, but she wants the park to be a place where all residents can relax.

The project still needs approval from city council. Less than one percent of downtown is currently used as green space.
