31-thousand pounds of protein were donated to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank yesterday.

That’s according to C-E-O Michael McKee, who said the massive contribution of ham, bacon and lunch meat was provided by Smithfield. Speaking at a reception ceremony at the food bank’s headquarters in Verona, McKee said this donation couldn’t have come at a better time.

The organization says 1 in 13 Virginians are currently experiencing hunger.
