ACCOMACK COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A single case of High Path Avian Influenza has been discovered in eastern Virginia. That’s according to a news release published by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
State officials are confirming a presumptive positive case of High Path Avian influenza in a commercial chicken flock in Accomack County. The affected farm has been quarantined, and the flock is being depopulated.
The Avian influenza outbreak in the DELMARVA region is a serious concern that requires coordinated efforts from state and federal agencies, the poultry industry, and the public. All poultry owners statewide are being encouraged to implement the highest levels of biosecurity to prevent the spread of the disease. Also, report any sick birds to the office of the State Veterinarian.
