Virginia House Republicans have voted down legislation that would have allowed doctors to prescribe psilocybin (SILL-oh-CY-bin) for treatment of a small set of mental health conditions.
The measure was sponsored by Delegate Dawn Adams, a nurse practitioner, who tried unsuccessfully last year to decriminalize what is known magic mushrooms.
She told the Courts of Justice subcommittee this week that she has crafted a better bill and it is necessary to treat refractory depression, end of life anxiety and P-T-S-D.
While the subcommittee voted 5-3 against the measure, they did leave open the possibility of revisiting it later.
