BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College men’s basketball team faced a set back at the hands of Roanoke 70-48 on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
• Roanoke opened with the game’s first six points before a Khalil Ward dunk in transition got BC on the board. Three minutes in. Jackson bell responded with a three-pointer for the Maroons that sent the visitors on a 10-2 run to stretch the advantage to 16-4 at the under-14 media timeout.
• BC came out of the timeout and ended the scoring spree as Jordan Cooper laid it in at the rim. Roanoke responded on the other end, but a Steve Burgess three-pointer put the Eagles back in business. Burgess knocked down a jumper and then nailed another three-pointer along with a bucket from Joseph Crenshaw to make it a 10-0 for the Eagles over three minutes and change to cut the lead to just two points with 18-16 with 9:34 to go in the opening stanza. Roanoke responded and stretched the lead back out to double figures, but another long ball from Burgess brought BC back to within seven at 37-20 with 4:58 to go in the frame. Burgess was tagged with a flagrant foul on the next defensive possession and the game took a turn as Roanoke went on a 10-0 run to take a 37-20 advantage late in the half. Burgess made a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the stanza to make it 37-22 at the break.
• Neither side scored for the opening three minutes of the second half, but Roanoke was able to score first and stretch the gap on a 6-0 run to start the stanza. A put-back by Maleek Richardson got BC on the board in the second half and Richardson and the Maroons starting trading scores, but the advantage had swelled to 49-28 for the visitors after a long ball by Richardson.
• Roanoke had its largest lead of the night with 8:27 to play, but a Richardson three-pointer got BC back on the board. The Eagles got some momentum going down the stretch as they cut the lead down thanks to scores from Kyren Smith and Will Vetter, but the damage was done.

Match Notes
• Roanoke limited the Eagles offensively as a whole, but Richardson and Burgess stepped up with 13 points each. Keiman Dillon matched his career-best with six rebounds and two steals to lead BC defensively.
• The Maroons well-balanced attack was led by Jackson Bell with 15 points including four makes from deep.
• Bridgewater won the rebounding battle 42-41 thanks to a 13-10 edge on the offensive glass.
