After nearly five hours of public comment and discussion, the Harrisonburg Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval to rezone land on the western side of the city for the Bluestone Town Center, which expected to have over 900 homes.
The approval came following a public hearing last night that saw around three dozen people speak and the overwhelming majority of those were against the proposal.
However, Commissioner Valerie Washington said most of the testimony were from homeowners who spoke from a place of privilege.
There were two parts of the development that the commission recommended denial, including a cash proffer between the developer and the city.
City Council will have the final say on the matter at its February 14th meeting.
