HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – 11 different James Madison players contributed to the scoring effort as the Dukes came away with a resounding 96-64 win over Midway (Ky.) on Sunday afternoon at the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
JMU (7-6, 0-1 Sun Belt) shot 52.9 percent from the floor and held Midway (3-7) to 31.4 percent (22-of-70). Six Dukes scored in double figures, led by Bryce Lindsay and Eddie Ricks III, who each scored 13. Ricks III also tied his season-high in rebounds (8).
Miguel Shaw (19) and Robbie Henry (14) led Midway in scoring, with Shaw finishing an efficient 7-of-11 from the floor. Nick Keeton secured 10 rebounds while tallying seven points.
How It Happened
First Half: James Madison 55, Midway 23
• Hutchins-Everett scored the first six points for JMU, helping the Dukes jump to a quick lead.
• The Dukes went on a 10-0 run before Midway broke it with a jumper at 16:16 to make the score 10-2.
• Ricks hit a three-pointer at 15:08 to extend JMU’s lead to 15-4.
• JMU shot 6-of-9 (67%) early, while Midway struggled at 2-of-10 (20%).
• A hook shot by Hutchins-Everett at 5:27 sparked a 9-0 run, pushing JMU’s lead to 48-16 at halftime.
• By halftime, the Dukes shot 20-of-31 (65%) overall and 8-of-12 (67%) from three, while Midway struggled, shooting 10-of-36 (28%) and 2-of-16 (13%) from beyond the arc.
Second Half: James Madison 41, Midway 41
• JMU opened the second half with a 10-0 run, featuring points from four Dukes: Hutchins-Everett, Smith, Ricks and Lindsay.
• The Dukes built their largest lead of 41 points at the 16:26 mark when Lindsay hit a jumper in the paint following an Eagle turnover to extend the lead to 67-26.
• JMU maintained control the rest of the way, closing out with a 96-64 victory and a final 32-point margin.
Game Notes
• Six JMU players scored in double figures, the most for the Dukes since seven players Dukes eclipsed 10 or more against Keystone College on Dec. 3, 2023.
• JMU’s 55 first-half points are the most in 2024-25 and the highest total since scoring 63 against Keystone.
• Bryce Lindsay’s 13 points is the eighth time this season the redshirt freshman has scored 10 points or more. Through 13 games, the guard leads the Dukes in scoring (13.4 ppg).
• The Dukes finished with 56 total rebounds, their highest total since corralling 51 at Michigan State on Nov. 4, 2023.
• The Dukes held a decisive advantage in points in the paint, finishing with 50 to Midway’s 18.
• Redd Thompson Jr. recorded a season and career-high of 7 points.
• JMU hit eight straight three-pointers in a half, tying their season-high. They also made eight in the first half against Jax State and Utah Valley.
• The Dukes shot a season-best of 20-of-31 (64.5%) from the floor in the first half.
• Justin Taylor matched JMU highs in points (9) and rebounds (5).
• JMU recorded three runs of 10-0 or more, bringing its season total to eight. The Dukes are 4-1 in games they record a run of 10-0 or greater.
• Elijah Hutchins-Everett finished with 12 points, his 11th game this season reaching double figures.
