Chronic Wasting Disease has been detected for the first time in a deer in Fairfax County.

The Department of Wildlife Resources has confirmed that an adult male deer that brought in last October to a harvesting facility in Vienna tested positive for the disease.

Despite the discovery, officials say no regulatory changes will be made until the conclusion of the 2022-23 deer hunting season and they encourage hunters to continue hunting.

The department has been closely monitoring the disease and its spread since it was discovered in the northern end of valley 13 years ago.
