SAN JUAN, P.R. – The Bridgewater College women’s basketball team suffered its first defeat of the 2024-25 season in a tight battle with St Joseph 61-56.

How It Happened
• Saint Joseph’s opened the game with a 3-0 lead before a Jay Garcia three-pointer got the Eagles on the board. The Blue Jays scored on back-to-back trips to take a four-point lead, but an old-school three-point play by Riley Corcoran cut the lead to just a point. The teams traded scores before an Alexis Edmonds and-one tied the game at 11-11 before USJ took the lead back on the next trip. Edmonds have the Eagles the lead a few moments later as a bucket by Jaden Alsberry followed by her three-pointer made it 16-15 in favor of BC. The Eagles stretched the lead to as much as three after a Corcoran jumper made it 22-19 at the end of the opening frame.
• USJ took the lead back after scores on consecutive trips, but an Asia Williams long ball put BC back in front. Williams helped stretch the lead moments later as she found Corcoran for a score to push it to 27-23 for BC with 6:8 to go in the half. Saint Joseph replied on the next trip down the floor with a pair of makes at the free throw line and embarked on a 12-0 run to flip the script. The Blue Jays found themselves in front at 35-27 after holding the Eagles scoreless for over three minutes and forcing five turnovers. My’la Green got the Eagles on the board with a make at the charity stripe and BC got the rebound off the second attempt and capitalized a moment later as Green found nylon. The offensive glass got the Eagles back to within a score as Garcia put in the work and her second-chance effort made it 35-32 with 1:32 to go in the half. USJ scored just before the horn to take a 37-32 edge to the locker room.
• The Eagles cut the lead to the locker room out of the half as India Dailey completed the old-fashioned three-point play. The Blue Jays stretched the lead back out to six with 6:51 to go in the frame before the two ides traded scores. USJ’s last make in the exchange set off a 6-2 run for the Blue Jays over the final 5:07 of the frame for Saint Joseph to take a 51-43 lead into the final stanza of regulation.
• Both teams traded score to open the fourth quarter before an Autumn Gentry second-chance effort cut the lead to six. The teams traded a bucket each before a free throw from Corcoran and a layup by Alsberry made it 55-50 heading to the fourth-quarter media timeout. The Blue Jays scored n their first possession out of the stoppage, but the Eagles started crashing the offensive glass in response with multiple second-chance efforts coming up empty before Garcia’s bucket cut the lead back to five with two minutes to play. BC got a quick stop and a pair of Corcoran free throws got BC to within three. USJ scored on the following trip, but Corcoran replied for BC with a layup on the other end. The Blue Jays were fouled on their next trip and made just one-of-two at the stripe, but BC came up empty on the other end after a quick miss and was forced to foul. USJ made one-of-two again at the line again to seal the deal.

Match Notes
• Corcoran and Garcia led the way for BC with 16 and 13 points respectively. Garcia also tallied a double-double in her return home as she matched her career-high of 13 rebounds.
• Saint Joseph had three players in double figures led by Taylor Verboven’s 18 points on 8-of-12 from the floor.
• The Eagles doubled the Blue Jays on the glass by a 42-19 edge, but the USJ shot 53.3% (24/45) from the floor compared to just 33.3 % (23/69) for BC.
