An unattended candle is being blamed for a fire that heavily damaged a home yesterday morning in Staunton.
According to a post on Staunton Fire and Rescue’s Facebook page, firefighters were dispatched just before seven o’clock to a home on Orchard Lane.
When they arrived, fire was showing from the rear of the two-story house. Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the upstairs but the home suffered heavy smoke and water damage.
No injuries were reported but the house was deemed uninhabitable and the American Red Cross has been called in to help the six occupants who have been displaced.
