HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison defensive lineman Eric O’Neill and cornerback Terrence Spence were both selected to the 2024 College Football Network FBS All-America Team.
O’Neill was named a Second Team All-American, while Spence garnered Third Team All-America laurels. This is the second national honor for both, as O’Neill and Spence were also named HERO Sports Group of Five All-Americans.
This is O’Neill’s second year being an All-American, as he accomplished the feat in 2023 while at LIU in the FCS. For Spence, this is his first time being an All-American at any level.
O’Neill enters Bowl Season ranking fifth nationally with 12.0 sacks and seventh with 17.5 tackles for loss. He also registered 49 total tackles with one interception (pick-six), three pass breakups and a team-high 15 quarterback hurries. He led the conference during Sun Belt play with nine 9.0 total sacks.
Spence was one of the nation’s leaders in interceptions, as he currently ranks third in the FBS with five. He also blocked a pair of kicks during the regular season, good for fourth nationally. Leading the Sun Belt in both of those categories, he also ranked third in the conference with 12 passes defense, adding in seven more pass breakups. JMU’s first semifinalist for the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award, he also tallied 34 tackles with one forced fumble.
O’Neill, Spence and Dukes wrap up the 2024 season on Wednesday, Dec. 18 when they face off with Western Kentucky in the Boca Raton Bowl at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
