Portions of one of Virginia’s most famous roads have reopened to the public.

Access to the opening section of Skyline Drive from Mile Zero to Mile Five has been restored by Shenandoah National Park. An 11-mile section from the Thornton Gap Entrance near Mile 31 to Whiteoak Parking just before Milke 43 has been reopened as well.

The entirety of Skyline Drive had been closed since December 14th in response to a debilitating winter storm. A second storm one week caused additional damage, further delaying the road’s reopening.

All other sections of the historic drive remain closed as repairs continue.
