Virginia’s nursing homes and assisted living facilities continue to struggle with staffing shortages.
That’s according to the latest report from the Virginia Health Care Association. The survey found that 86-percent of these long-term care facilities believe their staffing situation worsened over the last year – a five-percent increase since 2021.
The report shows that part of the problem is a lack of qualified candidates. More than half of the institutions polled said they had few to no acceptable applicants.
90-percent of facilities also reported increasing staff pay; although most residents in long-term care pay through Medicaid, which doesn’t allow for the same profit margins seen in other parts of the healthcare sector.
