BROADWAY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Rockingham Petroleum is celebrating their grand opening in Broadway with many deals all day, including regular gas for $2.59. General Manger, Josh Stephens, says they decided to sell gas for that price, because that’s what it was when the board approved the purchase of the property in November of 2019.

The store will offer many different kinds of made to order food including locally sourced chicken, burgers, breakfast pizzas, omelets, steak and cheeses, wraps, and more. “We wanted to make sure we were buying the chicken that our producers have. The bulk chicken is sourced locally and always arrives fresh, never frozen, and is breaded right here,” Stephens says.

While uncommon, fried chicken gizzards and hot boiled peanuts are very popular at the store.

Stephens also says it was important to bring back a community staple that was taken out by VDOT changes. “We had plenty of space for the Broadway BBQ Pit and it was important to us and our board to provide a space for the pit to come back to this community which raises money for the community we live in.”

Rockingham Petroleum Cooperative Food Manager Jess Shifflett says they’re “stepping out of the convenience store era” and offer catering for family gatherings and parties. “We can handle what you bring at us,” she added. “Every day we’re throwing out new ideas for people to try,” she notes as she’s excited for people to try their hot honey chicken sandwiches.

Mike Thompson, who was on the Board of Directors in 2019, says Rockingham Petroleum has a very large patron customer base in Northern Rockingham County, and they saw a need. “What we envisioned was bringing high quality super gold diesel to this end of the county. We saw a need for poultry plants and grain transporters. We wanted to help them without the need to go into Harrisonburg.” He added he was very pleased to see what they had envisioned and discussed come to life after the hard felt battles about the plans.

Rockingham Petroleum Cooperative is finalizing their ABC license and Lottery license so they will have local wine and beer available as well as lottery tickets soon.

Teachers, first responders, and law enforcement all get discounts when showing a valid ID.

The store will operate from 4:30am to 10pm Monday-Saturday with the kitchen open for food 5am-8pm. The pumps are open 24/7 everyday.

Josh Stephens says once they have more employees, they will add more hours of operation. Jobs can be found here.
