Doris LaRue Simmons Hanger, 89, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Bridgwater Home.

Mrs. Hanger was born on October 16, 1935 in Harrisonburg and was a daughter of the late Perlie Addison and Treva Ola Fadley Simmons. She worked for 22 years in the Pleasant Valley Elementary School Cafeteria, and later as a sample fabricator for Rocco Building Supply Company. She enjoyed camping with the Rockingham Travelers. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.

On October 15, 1955, she married Arthur Roland Hanger who survives. They were married for 69 years.

Also surviving are her children, Kathy Sue Hanger Hall and husband Keith, Timothy Roland Hanger and wife Pamela; siblings, Betty J. Spitzer and husband Wayne, Joseph F. Simmons and wife Becky, Roger L. Simmons and wife Judy, Judy A. Simmons; two sisters-in-law, Lynn Simmons, Chris Simmons; grandchildren, Addison S. Hall and wife Natalie and Isaac B. Hall and wife Kaitlyn; and two great-grandchildren, Ellie Sue Hall and Jagger Stone Hall.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hanger was preceded in death by her siblings, Janet C. Whitmire, Perlie R. Simmons, James L. Simmons; and a brother-in-law, Tony Whitmire.

Reverend Adam Blagg will conduct a memorial service on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church where the family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be held privately.

There will be no visitation or viewing at the funeral home.
