HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Food Lion grocery store in Harrisonburg.
Diego Rafael Silva Oroceno, 18, of Harrisonburg, was taken into custody Wednesday night shortly after the robbery, according to police.
Officers were called to the Food Lion on Port Republic Road around 8 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery. The caller said the suspect had taken money from the cash register at knifepoint and fled on foot.
While officers were responding to the Food Lion, police received a separate call for disorderly conduct with a weapon at Deer Run Apartments. When officers arrived, they found Oroceno wearing clothing that matched the description of the robbery suspect.
Police said video evidence and witness interviews confirmed Oroceno as the suspect in the robbery. He is charged with robbery with a weapon, fleeing from a law enforcement officer, and prohibition of wearing masks in certain places.
Oroceno is being held at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Regional Jail.
