HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Three Harrisonburg teachers are moving forward with a lawsuit against the city school system over the use of transgender students’ preferred pronouns.
The teachers originally filed the lawsuit in 2022, claiming the school board violated their right to free speech and religious freedom.
The lawsuit was renewed last week and referenced last year’s state Supreme Court opinion that school districts can not compel employees to use a student’s preferred pronouns.
The legal team representing the Harrisonburg teachers helped another Virginia teacher get a $575,000 settlement in a similar lawsuit.
