Brenda Elaine Showalter, 59, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024 in Charlottesville. She was born May 13, 1965 and was the daughter of the late Donald and Nellie Hamrick Fogus.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathy Fogus.
Brenda had a strong work ethic beginning at the age of 16; working in many fields to pay her way through college. She received her degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia and went on to teach in public, private and collegiate levels. Her last working career was a traveling supervisor overseeing principals.
After many years of critical health issues, Brenda was forced into early retirement. Brenda was a light to many in her field and an incredible influence to all she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Christopher Showalter; sister, Donna Weaver; special niece and nephew, Kara and Mac; like a sister, Marida Lamb; special canine friends, “Peep”, “Dozer”, and “Sniper”. She also leaves behind special aunts and uncles, including Rita; numerous cousins, extended family and friends. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
A Memorial Service will be conducted 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Kyger funeral home in Elkton with Marida Lamb and Bob Metheny officiating.
Visitation will be 12 to 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the funeral home prior to the service.
