HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Residents are very willing to give to charitable organizations that help those in need after a disaster and that is true for the victims of Hurricane Helene.

However, there are also those out there that are willing to take advantage of those in need.

Revlan Hill with the Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County explained to host Jim Britt on WSVA’s Early Mornings that before giving any donation to an organization, do the homework.

“Give to organizations that are really taking those charitable dollars and using them very, very well,” Hill said. “And so we have the Community Foundation here to help when those decisions [are being made] or when those questions are being asked, where do I give to.”

Hill added that, for example, she did her own homework on the American Red Cross and it showed that over 90 percent of all donations actually went towards the mission.
