STAUNTON, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A date has been set for the grand jury hearing for the Staunton man charged in a March fatal shooting.

According to online records, Rodney Dwayne Phillips will appear before a Staunton Circuit Court grand jury on Oct. 21.

Phillips, 35, faces two felony charges, including second-degree murder.

Police say he was responsible for the shooting death of Jonathan Michael Jacobs, 39, of Staunton on the night of March 8 at the Howard Johnson Motel on North Central Avenue.

Phillips remains held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
