Walter Harry Sharp, Jr., 90, of Rockingham, VA passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, at his home.

He was born on April 25, 1934, in Mississippi, to the late Walter H. Sharp, Sr. and Estha Shepherd Sharp. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy K. Sharp.

Mr. Sharp enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and retired after 21 years of service. While in the Navy he met Doris Mae Prevost and they were married on October 7, 1953 in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Walter enjoyed gunsmithing and watching old westerns, especially Gunsmoke. He loved his family with all his heart and was very close to his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished spending time with them. He enjoyed talking with and hanging around other veterans.

In addition to his wife of 70 years, he is survived by three sons, Walter Harry “Buddy” Sharp, III, James Robert Sharp and wife, Pam and Walter Gary Sharp, Sr. and wife Anne; four grandchildren, Walter Gary Sharp, Jr. and wife Claire, Amanda Sharp Loucks and husband, Deon, Ryan Dunfee and wife, Jen, and Austin Riley Sharp; seven great-grandchildren, Audrey Anne Loucks, Cody William Loucks, Calvin Brannigan Sharp, Alice Marie Sharp, Ashton Riley Sharp, Grace Rose Sharp, and Owen Asher Dunfee, as well as many extended family members and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m., on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Quantico National Cemetery.
