Karla Good Novick, who was born in Harrisonburg, VA on June 21, 1946, passed away after a miraculous thirteen-year battle with cancer on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Karla showed determination and grit and never ever gave up hope.

Karla was preceded in death by her loving parents, Carl and Effie Good, her brother, Wayne Good, her husband, Mark Novick, and by her infant son, Eric. She is survived by a loving and close family which includes her daughter, Amy Novick, her sister, Joyce Wright and her husband, Wayne Wright along with nephews, Tony, Steve and Tim Wright and nieces, Jenny Showalter and Michelle Bishop along with many great and great-great nephews and nieces too.

Karla was an exceptional Mom, sister and aunt – full of love and kindness!!

Karla graduated from EMC (now EMU) and then worked at Richmond DSS in foster care, at the Lewis Family Child Development Center, and at Richmond Magazine where she always made lasting friendships.

Karla loved shopping with her friends, Liza, Judy and Kathy, and always enjoyed finding a bargain. Most Saturdays she could be found at craft shows or out antiquing. She always had others in mind and looked for special gifts to fit each person.

Above all, Karla loved being a Mother and went everywhere in the early years with her daughter, Amy, trying to give her what she could in life. They almost always stayed in daily phone contact. A friend, Anne Linares, called Karla almost nightly and helped her get through the darker times and also brought quite a bit of laugher back into Karla’s life. She sent the most wonderful and uplifting cards also, which Karla cherished. We should all be so kind.

Karla wanted to thank her oncologist, Elle Friedman, who was with her every step of the way and who always had the next medication in view. Karla is also so appreciative for having her friend Jane help her to appointments, taking her food and helping her get the care she needed.

Karla will be missed and hopes that we will remember all the good times, which were many. Karla recently said that she thinks of Harrisonburg as home and so she will be buried there near her family.

There will be a later graveside service at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, September 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM and then The West Richmond Church of the Brethren will have a memorial service on Saturday, September 28, 2024 (at time TBD) both officiated by Pastor David A. Whitten.
