AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A Staunton man was arrested after jumping from a window and leading deputies on a foot chase that briefly prompted nearby schools to lock down.
According to a news release from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to serve multiple arrest warrants on Christopher R. Hutchinson, 35, at an apartment complex in Fishersville shortly before noon on Thursday. Hutchinson jumped out a window and fled, crossing Jefferson Highway towards the Wilson complex.
As a precaution, Wilson schools were placed on a secure status while deputies searched for Hutchinson. He was apprehended without incident in a wooded area near Truitt Lane.
Hutchinson was taken to Augusta Health for an injury sustained during the chase. He was arrested on outstanding warrants for felony violation of probation and a capias, and additionally charged with obstruction of justice.
He is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
