ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Rockingham County Board of Supervisors recently decided to earmark 10 percent of the total tourism tax to go towards the community grant program.

Director of Finance and Operations Trish Davidson appeared on Early Mornings Tuesday and told host Jim Britt that the goal of this program is to enhance tourism in the county.

“We have so many Air B&B’s popping all over the place and people wanting to enjoy the beauty of this area,” Davidson explained. “We would like to see our community centers in those areas and community programs to be improved and available for those tourism activities.”

Last week, supervisors awarded a $90,000 grant to renovate the Briery Branch Community Center and they have since instructed staff to move forward with the grant program for other areas of the county in hopes of boosting tourism.

Applications for those grants are now available on the county’s website.
