AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A student was arrested Friday morning after allegedly threatening to shoot up an Augusta County school on social media.
According to a news release, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office received information about the threat shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30. Deputies responded to the student’s address and questioned the juvenile about the threatening messages.
The student was taken into custody and transported to the Shenandoah Valley Juvenile Detention Center. They have been charged with Felony Virginia Code 18.2-60, Threats of Death or Bodily Injury, before school buses began their routes in the area.
Deputy Leslie Snyder confirmed that this incident was not related to a bomb threat made to Fort Defiance High School by a student later in the day. Snyder also declined to confirm which school was the target of the shooting threat.
“This was an isolated incident, and the juvenile was taken into custody prior to the school day beginning this morning, therefore there was no threat to the school,” Sheriff Donald L. Smith said in the release.
