Meredith Jay Custer, 74, a resident of Harrisonburg, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Blue Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mr. Custer was born on January 16, 1950 in Virginia and was a son of the late John Bertram and Martha Vada Sager Custer.  He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as an HVAC Technician for James Madison University. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On June 12, 1970, he married Deborah Kaye Wilfong Custer who passed away on June 4, 2017.

Surviving are her children, Joshua Custer of Washington, DC, Ashley Hearl of Waynesboro; sister, Phyllis Whetzel of Broadway; grandchildren, Brea McIntyre and husband Trey of Jacksonville, NC,  Callie Custer and fiancé Jared Mcmillen of Kenova, WV; and Eli Ryman of Harrisonburg.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Custer was preceded in death by his siblings, John Custer, W.Y. Custer, and Yvonne Steyer.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 11 a.m. at McMullen Funeral Home. McMullen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
