HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – A number of paving operations on several different roadways in the Shenandoah Valley are expected to cause traffic delays over the next couple of months.

That’s according to Ken Slack, with the Virginia Department of Transportation.

“Crews are working in various locations through about the end of September,” Slack said. “This is daytime work, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. expected single lane closures and areas of unmarked pavement.”

Slack adds that in Rockingham County, overnight lane closures are needed on US Route 33 near the intersection of Cross Keys Road. This will affect eastbound traffic tonight through Thursday nights for construction of a new turn lane.

According to Slack, specialized pavement treatment will also start this week in Augusta County, and that drivers should be on the lookout for single-lane closures.

“Contractors are applying high friction treatment to I-81 and I64 ramps and interchanges in the Staunton area,” Slack said. “This helps improve traction in wet weather. The work takes place during nighttime and overnight hours now through late September.”
