ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Rockingham County Fairgrounds will be hosting a couple of events this weekend to get people ready for the fair.

The Virginia Summer Showdown will be held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to check out all of the dairy cows in the area. Crowning of Miss and Mister Rockingham County will take place Saturday at the pageant.

Rebecca Holloway, General Manager of the Rockingham County Fair, gave a breakdown of the festivities.

“The little kids pageant is the daytime pageant and that starts Saturday at 11 a.m.,” Holloway said. “And then we follow up that evening with our junior miss, miss, and missus pageant, which is gonna hold a lot of entertainment and fun. And the theme is ‘Love Like Sarah’ in memory of Sarah Monger. So, we’re really proud of that.”

Holloway added that there are usually about 20 kids who compete in the pageants for scholarship money.
