John Mason Coyle, 89, a resident of Linville, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at his home.

Mr. Coyle was born in Charleston, West Virginia on July 6, 1935 and was a son of the late Douglas Gardner Coyle and Josephine Sutler Coyle and stepfather, John Graves.  He served his country for 41 years in the Army and National Guard, where he taught infantry, cartography and many other specialties.  He was a member of the Harrisonburg Elks Lodge #450 and of Edom United Methodist Church.

Surviving is his wife of 70 years, Betty Louise Brannon Coyle; children, John Coyle of Linville, Stephen Coyle of Timberville; grandchildren, Nicole Marie Coyle, Travis Coyle and wife Andrea; great-grandchildren, Brian Coyle, Ann Marie Coyle, Amaya Coyle, and Arial Coyle.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Coyle was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Marie Coakley

Reverend Costella Forney will conduct a funeral service on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Mike Shenk Officiating and military rites by the Dayton American Legion Post 27.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, July 25, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
