AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Augusta County Sheriff’s office is investigating a shooting that happened last night in the Riverheads area.

In a release, Sheriff Donald Smith said that at about 7:50pm, the sheriff’s office responded to a call for an adult male with a gunshot wound to the face.

Deputies responded to the 3500 block of Lee Jackson Highway and the initial investigation revealed the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident between two drivers. The suspect is believed to be in a dark-colored truck, possibly a diesel. The victim was flown from Riverheads Elementary School to UVA Hospital for additional medical treatment. His condition is currently unknown.

Sheriff Smith said this is an ongoing investigation that appears to be an isolated incident. He adds there is no current threat to our community.
