The Board discussed those plans in a joint meeting with the Rockingham County Planning Commission Tuesday night while also hearing feedback from the public. County residents, many of whom are farmers, voiced support for the plans during the public hearing portion of the meeting.
The Comprehensive Plan sets goals for Rockingham County over the next 20 years, factoring in land use, housing and transportation. It also protects the county’s rural and agricultural areas.
Watt Bradshaw, a farmer who lives in the Mauzy area, said climate change should be considered more in the plan.
“There’s really not much mention of climate change, climate responsive building design or carbon neutral buildings in the plan, and there are places where those could be interjected later,” Bradshaw said.
District 3 Supervisor Rick Chandler told the board prior to the vote that they should take the public’s comments into consideration, as the plan can be amended.
