Peggy Ann (Thacker) Heatwole, 79, of Pleasant Valley, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the Sentara RMH Medical Center.

Mrs. Heatwole was born on September 28, 1944 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Norman Robert and Catherine Susan (Caricofe) Thacker. Peggy retired from the Bridgewater Retirement Community where she worked in housekeeping and patient care. She enjoyed shopping, doing crafts with her grandchildren, and taking bus trips.

On March 5, 1962 she married Donald Glenn Heatwole who survives.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Heatwole is survived by her children, Donald Glenn Heatwole, Jr., and wife, Lorrie of Harrisonburg, Pamela Sue (Heatwole) Funkhouser and husband, Dan of Weyers Cave, Catherine Susan Heatwole of Pleasant Valley; siblings, Barbara Shoemaker, Davey Thacker; three grandchildren, Chad Alan Funkhouser, Lindsey Caroline (Heatwole) Ritchie, Rachel Nicole Funkhouser; five great-grandchildren, Scarlett Funkhouser, Atticus Funkhouser, Camilla Funkhouser, Hudson Sheaves, Zara Perry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Norma “Skeeter” Hensley and Elsie Armentrout.

A graveside service will be held in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Wayne Wright officiating.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
