HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – The Harrisonburg City School Board has reappointed Superintendent Michael Richards to another four-year term.

The board voted unanimously to renew Richards’ contract at Tuesday night’s work session, which will keep the Superintendent on through 2028.

Richards said during the meeting that the school division’s accomplishments over the past four years can be credited to teamwork.

“We’ve been able to accomplish so much for the students in our community because we have remained focused on the real work – supporting all students to thrive in school and beyond, far beyond trying to distract us from that real work,” Richards said. “You have rolled up your sleeves and worked with us.”

Richards added that those accomplishments include getting multiple schools to full accreditation status, leading the division through the pandemic, and building Rocktown High School, which is set to open this Fall.
