Michael G. Grogg, 64, of Harrisonburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.
He was born on November 1, 1959, in Harrisonburg and was a son of the late William Russell and Willie Mae Kathleen Hughes Grogg. Mike was born with many challenges, but he was blessed with the devotion and support of his family. He was also blessed with a community that had resources for people with disabilities and Mike was able to lead a full life. He attended Lucy F. Simms School and Massanutten Technical Center. He was a member of Asbury UMC and was an honorary graduate of Harrisonburg High School. He participated in the Special Olympics and ARC and worked briefly at Bridgewater College and Friendship Industries for a number of years. As an adult he was able to live independently mostly due to the guidance and resources provided to him by VAIL. Mike loved Hot Rod cars and old trucks. His favorites were Dukes of Hazzard and Smokey and the Bandit. His heart lies in West Virginia where his Dad was from.
Michael is survived by two brothers, James R. Grogg and Charles H. “Chuck” Grogg and wife, Sharon; one sister, Kathleen “Kathy Ann” Grogg; uncle Harry “Junior” Grogg; two nephews, John R. Grogg and wife, Kristin and William E. Bresley; two nieces, Jennifer D. Jackson and husband, Matthew and Angela N. Reid and husband, Jeremy; 8 great-nieces and nephews; and a number of cousins.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Danny Herring officiating.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 6 to 8pm at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
