HARRISONBURG VA: (Rocktown Now) – The potential for strong to severe storms will impact the Shenandoah Valley, as well as the entire Mid Atlantic area today. Strong, gusty winds, heavy downpours, hail and the threat of tornadoes will exist. The greatest threat of tornadoes will be to the east of the valley, but the possibility will exist here as well. Damaging winds with gusts beyond 40 mph will be possible with some storms. Once the storms clear the area, colder air arrives with Tuesday’s temperatures in the 30s and lows dropping to the teens and low 20s. Temperatures start to warm on Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds and tornadoes are likely on this afternoon and evening. There is the potential for significant damage from wind gusts of 70 to 80 mph as well as an isolated stronger tornado. These threats are highest
for areas along and east of Interstate 81.
A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Northern and Central Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains through 2 AM Tuesday. Strong wind gusts not associated with thunderstorms could result in isolated instances of wind damage.
