The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch, for Saturday between
Noon and 8 p.m. eastern for areas in the Shenandoah
Valley from Rockingham County north, as well as counties to the east and west.
Areas included are Washington-Central and Eastern Allegany-Rockingham-Shenandoah-
Frederick VA-Page-Warren-Clarke-Hampshire-Morgan-Berkeley-
Jefferson-Hardy-Eastern Grant-Eastern Mineral-
Including the cities of Petersburg, Strasburg, Russelldale,
Stanley, Charles Town, Berryville, Mount Jackson, New Market,
Shepherdstown, Keyser, Winchester, Woodstock, Cumberland, Romney,
Antioch, Shenandoah, Harrisonburg, Paw Paw, Martinsburg, Front
Royal, Hagerstown, Fort Ashby, Ridgeville, Headsville, Luray, New
Creek, and Moorefield
* WHAT…Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 108
possible.
* WHERE…Portions of north central and western Maryland, northwest
and western Virginia, and eastern and panhandle West Virginia.
* WHEN…From Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening.
* IMPACTS…Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
extreme heat and high humidity events.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Oppressive heat and humidity will overspread
the area Saturday and last into Sunday.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives, neighbors, pets, and livestock.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
