VDOT spokesperson Tara Todd also advised drivers in Rockingham County to be on the lookout for alternating lane closures along a section of Spotswood Trail east of Harrisonburg.
The alert comes as the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality had issued a Drought Warning Advisory for that area.
The stolen vehicles are a bright lime green 2024 Kawasaki KX45 and a black 2022 Husqvarna FC450 Rock Star Edition.
This means that the heat index value could be upwards of 104 degrees today. The advisory will be in effect from noon until 8 p.m. tonight.
