Rocktown entered the game riding high after a dominant 57-22 win over Page County, but their momentum was halted by Staunton’s disciplined defense and efficient playmaking. The loss dropped Rocktown’s record to 1-1, while Staunton improved to 2-0, maintaining a perfect start to their season.

The Turner Ashby Knights kicked off their 2025 season with a strong road win over the Fort Defiance Indians. The Knights dominated both sides of the ball, securing a 35-15 victory.

The Spotswood Trailblazers captured their second boys state basketball championship on Saturday with a thrilling 57-50 victory over Hopewell in the Class 3 State Tournament final. This win marks Spotswood’s first state title since 1993, ending a 32-year drought.

The Spotswood Trailblazers Boys’ Basketball team is victorious in the State Class 3 – Semifinals against Northside High School. Final score Spotswood 64, Northside 52. Spotswood moves on to the State Championship game in Richmond on March 15, 2025, against Hopewell.

The Spotswood Trailblazers Girl’s Basketball team had their season come to an end with the State Class 3, Semifinals game against Hopewell. Final score Hopewell 57, Spotswood 39.

Rockingham County Schools is celebrating three state championships this year. On WSVA’s “Early Mornings” Mario Retrosi talked with Spotswood High School coaches Chad Edwards (Boy’s Basketball) and Sue Rinker (Girls Cross Country) and Broadway High School coach Darrell Zook (Boy’s Cross Country). Dr. Larry Shifflett, Superintendent of schools, also joined the conversation.
