VPAS hopes to bring attention to the need for meals for local senior citizens

Beth Bland, Executive Director of the Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS), discussed their “March for Meals” campaign, highlighting several key points:

Generational Divides: VPAS is addressing generational divides through various programs, followed by special meals at different restaurants. This year marks their first partnership with the Downtown Renaissance.

Program Growth: VPAS has seen a 10% increase in the number of people served across all service areas compared to the previous year. The demand for services continues to rise, especially as the first wave of baby boomers ages into needing services.

Cost of Living: The dramatic increase in the cost of living, including food and housing, has motivated VPAS to expand their meal services and ensure they are nutritious. All menus are reviewed and approved by a registered dietitian.

Transportation Services: VPAS offers a last resort transportation program to help individuals get to grocery stores and other essential locations.

Community Engagement: VPAS hosts cafes in all communities they serve, offering good meals and great programs. They also celebrate Community Champions Day, where community leaders deliver meals.

Annual Events: One of their big annual events, “Cast for a Cause,” will take place on March 21st at Brothers Craft Brewing. The event includes custom-made beer, raffle prizes, silent auctions, and food items.
