On April 2, the Wildlife Center of Virginia admitted its first baby raptor of 2025 — a nestling Great Horned Owlet from Fredericksburg, Virginia. The owlet had fallen out of its nest and was found on the ground. Rescuers initially planned to re-nest the young bird, but noticed its eyes were cloudy. Concerned the owlet might be blind, they brought it to the Center for evaluation.

The Harrisonburg Fire Department is inviting community members who are interested in a career as a firefighter to attend their annual Community Fire Academy.

At approximately 3am, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an in-progress suicide threat with a knife at a residence in the 6-thousand block of Rawley Pike. 

Grayson Hall Smith was sentenced last Friday to 10 years in prison with 9 of those years and 6 months suspended.

James Madison baseball fell to No. 20 Troy, 4-0, in Sun Belt Conference action as the teams wrapped up the three-game series at Veterans Memorial Park on Sunday morning.

Miscues by the James Madison softball defense proved to be the difference in Sunday’s contest as the Ragin’ Cajun defeated the Dukes by a score of 9-2 to take the third game of the Sun Belt Conference set on Sunday afternoon at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park.
