And with a heat wave expected to hit the Valley in the coming days, Sheriff Hutcheson offers some advice about how to avoid leaving children or pets in a hot car.

The incident occurred on May 18, when officers responded to reports of a stabbing victim at a 7-Eleven on N. Coalter Street in Staunton shortly before 3:30 a.m. The suspects fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Officers responded shortly after 1:30 this morning to a report of suspicious activity in the 100 block of North Commerce Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered an elderly woman with visible signs of being assaulted.
Most of the charges stemmed from Stewart exceeding the state-mandated child-to-adult ratio.

Rusiecki, 62, was found guilty last September on one count of grand larceny. That charge stemmed from an incident in October of 2021, when he stole a modular unit from Clayton Homes on South Main Street.
Brunk, 63, is facing two counts of murder for hire after those alleged plans came to light last fall. One of the suspected targets was Rockingham County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marsha Garst.
