
Governor Glenn Youngkin issued Executive Order 33 today, which directs the Virginia Department of Education to draft guidance for public school divisions to adopt local policies and procedures establishing cell phone-free education.
It is a move that pleases Harrisonburg School Superintendent Dr. Michael Richards.

The sessions on Monday through Friday will be held at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will include campus tours as well as overviews of academics, student life, admissions processes and financial aid. An additional morning session will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 20.

Four of the appointees – Caudle, Galati, Rexrode and Thacker – are JMU alumni.

The board voted 5-0, with member Gloria Corlineo abstaining, at last night’s strategic planning session to hire Salem-based Guynn-Waddell, P.C. as their legal counsel.

Brandi Rutz requested a forensic investigation into the $133,000 that was used for the initial name change in 2020.

The board voted unanimously during last night’s meeting to reallow “The School for Good and Evil” however, a motion to reinstate two others – “The Kite Runner” and “My Friend Dahmer” – failed on a 2-2 tie. They also voted 3-1 during last night’s meeting to vacate the Virginia School Boards Association at the end of the month.
