HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Drivers in Harrisonburg can expect delays on Reservoir Street this week because of electrical work.

The city’s Public Works department said Monday that Harrisonburg Electric Commission is replacing a transformer at its substation near the intersection of Reservoir Street and Martin Luther King Junior Way. The work will require a section of sidewalk to be removed.

Because of this, they say that one lane of Reservoir Street will be closed through next Monday. City spokesperson Michael Parks explains.

“Sidewalk removal work is going to require utilizing 1 eastbound lane on Reservoir St. near the work zone, leaving 1 eastbound lane open to through traffic,” Parks said. “During work, the sidewalk will remain removed until the transformer replacement project is completed, which right now is scheduled for around May 13 and then the sidewalk will be reinstalled at that point.”

Next Monday from 10 a.m. to noon, Public Works says that an oversized truck delivering the transformer will block the street entirely between Evelyn Bird Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

They advise drivers to avoid the area during this time.
